Ensure that eligible groups of patients access treatment by legal means and to have high-quality cannabis for medicinal purposes. Exploit the full therapeutic potential of therapeutic cannabis with regard to individual patient needs and with respect to the applicable laws and regulations. Become the Czech leader in cannabinoids products import and one of the Czech licensed Cannabis growers. The vision is to build a stable company with sustainable development. To secure a reasonable profit for every shareholder.

Building on ongoing scientific research and in conjunction with clinical practice, we started the distribution of imported cannabis for therapeutic use in the Czech Republic in 2013. We believe that international cooperation will help us to build a stable position as a dominant supplier of Medical Grade Cannabis and other sophisticated products within cannabinoids treatment. Czech Medical Herbs is ready to apply for a Cannabis Growing license and to meet qualification factors as the company successfully did in 2014.

History of the Company

Czech Medical Herbs, s.r.o. (CMH) was established in May 2013. The company had a clear vision – to get the very first Czech license for Medical Cannabis growing and become the largest Czech producer and importer of Medical Cannabis. In the same year, the company applied and successfully met conditions to obtain a license for a wholesales pharmaceutical distribution awarded by the State Institute of Drug Control (SÚKL). This license was a precondition for application for the second license in order to become an importer of Medical Cannabis – License for handling with psychotropic drugs awarded by the Czech Ministry of Health. The company also met all qualifications and became the very first Czech importer of Medical Cannabis to Czech pharmacies in 2014. In mid-2014 CMH took part in a public tender in order to get the first growing license. There were 16 companies and 3 of these met qualifications requirements. CMH was one of the successful companies. The second round expected an offer of a hidden price and the lowest price was expected to win. CMH did not have the lowest offer and did not receive the first and the only one growing license. The strategic partner for CMH was an Israeli licensed cannabis producer.

CMH has imported or imports, the following Medical Cannabis into the Czech Republic: Bedrocan (Netherland), Tilray (Canada) and Aurora (Canada).

CMH outsourced management activity within a project of Cannabis cultivation in the Czech Republic in 2017 and 2018. An Australian company MGC Pharmaceutical through a local company PANAX Pharma financed the project. The Czech Republic can expect a sales boom of Medical Cannabis in 2020 thanks to an expected 90% reimbursement of Medical Cannabis from public health insurance. The Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of the Czech Republic approved an amendatory act in June 2019.  The reimbursement is due to commence in January 2020.

Wholesales Pharmaceuticals Distribution

Czech Medical Herbs became the very first importer of Medical Grade Cannabis to Czech pharmacies in 2014. Nowadays the company distributes Medical Grade Cannabis of worldwide leading Canadian companies – Tilray, Aurora and FV Pharma. The focus is, at present time, only on dried Cannabis flowers; the more sophisticated products like extracts and pharmaceuticals are awaited along with gradual clinical demands and amendments of the law on both a worldwide and local level. There is one official Medical Cannabis grower in the Czech Republic. However, growing in the Czech Republic did not meet patients’ expectations in terms of price, variety of strains and volume so far. In this light there is a qualified guess that import of cannabinoids will exceed the local growing for the next few years. The Czech Republic intends to implement 90% reimbursement from a health insurance policy for every applicable patient, starting 2020. That is why we expect a substantial sales increase next year in the Czech Republic.

Clinical Trials

Czech Medical Herbs is a Clinical Research Organization. CMH is ready to host and manage Clinical Trials for foreign clients in the Czech Republic. All Clinical Trials respect international quality standards. Activity within a Clinical Trials cover:

  • Feasibility Study
  • Documentation Study
  • Regulatory Submission
  • Study Set-up and Initiation
  • Project Management
  • Monitoring
  • Serious Adverse Events (SAE) Management
  • Data Management
  • Statistical Analyses
  • Global Coordination and Communication

Botanical research

There are few research organizations established by government, which are entitled to run breeding Cannabis programs and Cannabinoids research in the Czech Republic. These special research licenses are granted by the Czech Ministry of Health. CMH has a close cooperation with two research organizations. CMH helped to established cooperation between an Australian company and a
Czech research institution in 2016. In this case the research is focused on breeding strains suitable for the pharmaceutical industry and tissue culture research. Since the initial contact, CMH has outsourced day-to-day managerial functions locally for an Australian investor. The service provided by CMH covers recruitment, functional guidance, reporting, export/import licenses of a plant
material, accounting, law and tax advisory.

Official Growing License

Czech Medical Herbs is ready and plans to apply for an official growing license as soon as the authorities will install market economy principles instead of non-profitable planned economy currently being used. CMH is capable of meeting qualifications factors as proved in 2014, when CMH was a finalist for a final price offer.

Czech Association of Medical Cannabis Growers was established as a platform for professionals from the Cannabis industry and operates as any other professional association. The basic ambition is to have a tool, which enables us to share ideas and communicate with government authorities. The association actively contributes to a discussion about production and distribution of Cannabinoids on a local level. Beside a discussion there are also concrete outputs such as a draft of amendment to the law shared with Czech parliament political parties. The international reach of the Association became gradually more important. There is also a need to improve international rules and make them compatible. A good example is the fact that quality demands on Medical Grade Cannabis varies country to country even among states of the European Community. This is one of the serious obstacles in international business, which has an obvious impact on Cannabinoids treatment development. Czech Association of Medical Cannabis Growers was initiated by Czech Medical Herbs in 2015 and is a chairman company at the moment.
